Green Shoots

You might have noticed the first showing of bluebell leaves pushing through and we have snowdrops out too. The daffodils are also showing themselves in the tree line close to the practice tees.

Typically we use the winter months to do tasks that require us to trample. We remove any fallen trees and coppice (cutting back fast growing hazel trees) until March before leaving the ground to recover and support the plants. .

The early appearance of these cherished plants is causing us to rethink our work in the woods.

Our teenage Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteers are working alongside the path parallel to the swooping 7th fairway, but even there we are seeing leaves appear. We might have to move to other tasks to avoid crushing the plants which will not recover for Spring.

We will look to work in other areas, cutting back invasive holly and ivy. We will also put more bark chippings onto paths as we get fresh supplies.
