Friends of Batchwood try to promote a balanced approach to maintenance of the full value of the Batchwood Estate that is managed by or on behalf of St Albans City and District Council. This involves woodland management, consultation on planning matters, publicising the virtues of the site and raising general awareness of the assets the available to the community there. Our members include golfers, Bowls Club members, dog walkers and those with an interest in the woods and wildlife of Batchwood. Representatives from Friends of Batchwood attend the twice-yearly meeting of the Batchwood Forum, a group led by the Council, which enables all those groups with an interest in the optimum running of the Estate to share problems and solutions.
Friends of Batchwood are in active consultation and collaboration with the St Albans City and District Council and Councillors, the Countryside Management Service [CMS], 1Life [which manages the Leisure Centre] and the management of Club Batchwood, managed by the Deltic Group. 1Life currently funds Friends of Batchwood’s insurance premium, which is a major outlay for a small organisation. We have also received grants from The Woodland Trust.
The Chairman of Friends of Batchwood is Roma Mills, who can be contacted via firstname.lastname@example.org.
